At the District 8-5A Track and Field Championships April 12 from Marcus, Hebron's track and field team needed a big performance late from its 1,600-meter relay to claim the district title.

PLANO -- Apparently all the Plano Senior baseball team needed was a deficit to jumpstart its offense.

LEWISVILLE -- Entering Friday's District 8-5A baseball contest against Lewisville, Flower Mound's bats had been in a bit of a slump as the Jaguars had averaged just one run per game over their last three district games (two losses).

In their first meeting against Flower Mound, Lewisville softball coach Lori Alexander didn't believe her Lady Farmer's squad gave a good account of themselves as the Lady Jaguars earned a 10-0 victory.

FARMERS BRANCH -- On initial glance, it appears as though someone reprinted the results from the 2011 District 8-5A Girls Golf Tournament and passed them off as the 2012 edition.

PLANO -- Lewisville softball had 13 hits off Plano West senior pitcher Victoria Brown when the two teams locked up to open district.

Entering Friday's contests (results not available as of press time), the District 8-5A baseball standings were anything but clear as four teams were tied for the top mark in district while the sixth and seventh-place teams were just two games back of first.

With just three matches remaining following Friday's District 8-5A contests (results not available as of press time), the playoff picture is beginning to take shape and Flower Mound and Marcus have put themselves in solid playoff positioning.

Hebron's best boys basketball Class 5A season came to a close Feb. 28 when the Hawks were eliminated by the No. 2-ranked team in the state, South Grand Prairie, 67-49.

With two-time defending champion Allen still going strong, Flower Mound’s wrestling team headed to the state tournament Friday and Saturday at the Delco Center in Austin with hopes of pulling out a second-place team finish.

Marcus and Flower Mound’s boys soccer teams remain in playoff position out of District 8-5A as the second half of district play got underway during the past week.

Flower Mound’s hockey team closed the regular season of the varsity Silver division in the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League on a positive note Thursday as the Jaguars came out on top in a high-scoring affair over Grapevine-Colleyville, 8-5.

Marcus' girls soccer team has bounced back from their only loss of the season -- a 2-1 defeat Feb. 10 against Plano West -- in a positive way, winning three consecutive matches in District 8-5A competition to move into sole possession of second behind the Lady Wolves.

After scoring just two goals in its first three District 8-5A contests, Flower Mound's boys soccer team has seen an uptick in its offensive production over the last three, recording 11 goals en route to compiling a 2-0-1 record, including a 4-0 victory Tuesday over Plano West.

Last year, following a series of close finishes in the past, Flower Mound's wrestling team penciled in winning a regional title as the team's top priority.

Flower Mound boys basketball head coach Henry Thomas has had a giant No. 500 cookie waiting for him for some time.

Flower Mound's wrestling team produced seven individual champions Saturday at the District 11 Championships from Hebron as the Jaguars cruised to a first-place team finish and advanced eight competitors to the Region II Championships, which are Friday and Saturday at Arlington Martin.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS -- When the UIL released its biennial reclassification and realignment two years ago, the big news was the creation of a stout 8-5A consisting of Allen, Flower Mound, Flower Mound Marcus, Hebron, Lewisville, Plano East, Plano Senior and Plano West.

Lewisville boys soccer coach Brandon McCallum said it would be great if the Farmers could make the playoffs this season.

Despite the graduation of multiple key players, Lewisville girls soccer coach Eric Forrest believes the 2012 version of the Lady Farmers have the right pieces to be productive in the counter-attacking system and make an impact in District 8-5A.

LEWISVILLE -- Ashley Deary scored a career-high 30 points Friday night, including a perfect night from 3-point range on six attempts as Flower Mound's girls basketball team (5-6) pulled away from Lewisville (3-8) in a District 8-5A contest, 69-56.

LEWISVILLE -- The homecoming for former Lewisville and current Flower Mound coach Henry Thomas was spoiled by the Farmers Friday night as Lewisville held off a late Jaguar surge for a 72-60 victory.
