Light up the sky: Fireworks, fun and music will fill Main Street on July 4


The city of Rowlett is preparing for its annual Fireworks on Main event. This year the city staff expects a crowd of 20,000 people will flock to the city to take part in the festivities from 5 to 10 p.m. on July 4.

The Rowlett City Council approved an agreement on June 4 to allow the construction of a new cellphone tower on city-owned property under a facilities license agreement. The construction of the tower will improve cellphone service in the city, particularly in the Waterview area.

A kingdom must fall: City forced to remove popular playground to ensure children's safety


The city of Rowlett is preparing to tear down one of its more popular playgrounds in order to ensure the safety of the children who have enjoyed the structure. The city will remove the Kids Kingdom Playground from Pecan Grove Park after an independent safety inspection deemed it unsafe for use and recommended its replacement.

The Rowlett City Council chambers were filled with residents on Tuesday, June 4, who wanted to speak out against plans to build an assisted living center in their neighborhood.
