Suspect in Tour 18 burglaries arrested
By Chris Roark, croark@starlocalnews.com
Keller police arrested 34-year-old Justin Andrews on Tuesday in connection with a series of 2012 home burglaries in North Texas, including Flower Mound.
Andrews, who lives near Houston, has been charged with seven counts of burglary and tampering/fabricating evidence.
On Dec. 21 of last year, there were seven homes in the Tour 18 subdivision of Flower Mound that were burglarized, including the home of State Sen. Jane Nelson. Police say Andrews has been connected to one of the Flower Mound burglaries so far.
Andrews has also been tied to six burglaries in two gated communities in Westlake in July and December of last year.
"He's not talking," said Lt. Brenda Slovak of the Keller Police Department. "But we believe he just hit high-end homes when he could because those were the ones he's been to."
Slovak said it's possible Andrews did an Internet search for homes near golf courses, assuming those residents would have a lot of money.
Slovak said there were 13 burglaries in Westlake, and one of them had about $1 million in stolen items. While an exact dollar amount hasn't been released, Slovak said it's possible the Westlake burglaries led to a loss of about $4 million to $5 million.
Investigators searched Andrews' home March 7 and found a variety of items believed to have been taken from Flower Mound and Westlake, as well as homes in Memorial City, Harris County and Las Vegas.
"He had a 5,300-square-foot house, and in his master bathroom he had a large desk full of jewelry and Louis Vuitton purses," Slovak said. "It appears that he was pulling the stones out of the jewelry and was selling them separately."
Slovak declined to say how police connected Andrews to the crimes but said the investigation is ongoing.
