Day care center may be postponed

Representatives from Children's Learning Adventure Childcare Centers have requested a postponement in their application to construct a facility in Flower Mound.
Officials from the day care company had requested a specific use permit (SUP) to build a facility at the northeast corner of FM 3040 and Morriss Road, but the planning and zoning commission recommended denial of the SUP Monday because of a variety of concerns.
Among those, many which were shared with a packed crowd in attendance, were the possible traffic problems at the intersection that the center could create.
Thursday, David Newton, project manager for Children's Learning Adventure, requested an extension before taking the plan to the council, adding that company officials are confident they can come up with a plan to address P&Z's concerns. The council was set to see the item Monday.
A supermajority council vote would have been required to overturn P&Z's recommendation.
The item will appear on the agenda, though the council has the option to table it for a future date.
Other concerns included proximity of children to a busy intersection, the lack of tax revenue generated in that area that could be used for retail, traffic going through the Tealwood Oaks subdivision to avoid making U-turns and lack of communication between the company and adjacent homeowners.
The project was set to include a 26,056-square-foot facility, a 30,000-square-foot playground and a small retail area.
