Revolution crushes Crunch, brings new fun in rousing season opener

My dad and I were back at it again for another fun-filled sports night together. Thursday evening, Feb. 21, we attended the first game of the season for the newest professional team in Allen, Texas. If you haven't heard of them yet, you will!

I am so excited that indoor football is now played at the Allen Event Center. The Texas Revolution is our team and the indoor game is really exciting to watch.

Dad and I arrived at the game early, like we always do, and we went straight up to the press box. I always think it is really cool to get to go to the press box, so I don't want to waste any time. I visited with the play-by-play guys for a few minutes and ate some fajitas that were waiting for us. Thanks Uncle Julio's!

Time flew by fast and the introductions were about to begin. I really liked the fact that the game began with a prayer. I was told that many of the players have a Bible study, as well, before warmups. Dad and I were glad to hear the players have their priorities straight. The music began to thunder and the players' names were announced. The fans were cheering loudly and the excitement was growing in the arena.

Dad had been to several indoor football games before, but this was my first. I did not know what to expect. The Texas Revolution took control of the game right from the start. We really have an awesome team. They scored more than 60 points and it wasn't even halftime yet!

The game was filled with long passes and big tackles. Instead of out-of-bounds lines, indoor football just has padded walls. This made for some unusual catches and tackles with players crashing into the walls. Also, since the fans are so close to the field with only the short walls separating them, many times the players would get tackled just inches from them. Many lucky fans were also able to catch the balls that went into the seats as well. Unlike many other games I have been to, if you catch the football you get to keep it. They must have had 100 balls ready, because it seemed like they kept going into the stands!

The halftime show was also really cool. There was a world record holder who rode a really tall unicycle and flipped bowls up in the air and caught them on her head. The crowd gave her a standing ovation as she flipped bowl after bowl on her head while riding at least 10 feet in the air on the unicycle. After she was done the crowd was surprised by the entire Texas Revolution team running to the center of the field. The music got loud and the entire team started dancing to Gangnam Style. Dad and I were cracking up and the crowd was screaming with excitement. Dad thought it was nice to see that they knew how to have fun.

The final score of the game was 103-22 with the Texas Revolution winning. You would think that the players would have been worn out after scoring that many points, but instead they invited the fans down to the field to take pictures and get autographs. I took several pictures with different players and got autographs from both the players and cheerleaders on my new Texas Revolution shirt. I saw several fans getting their footballs signed that they caught during the game. Next game I'm sitting down close to the field and I hope to get lucky and catch a ball myself.

I am very thankful to have been invited to enjoy the first game of our new Texas Revolution team and I look forward to hanging with my dad again soon on the sidelines. Maybe I will see you there!
