There were plenty of runs to go around on the opening day of the 12-5A softball season.

Mesquite found more than enough, while North Mesquite came up one short.

The Skeeters pounded Longview pitching for 19 hits as they doubled them up for an 18-9 victory.

The Lobos actually scored in six of the seven innings, but could not match Mesquite's big rallies.

The Skeeters scored six runs in the third inning to take a 10-2 lead and then put the game away with a four-run seventh.

Kennedy Curry smacked a pair of home runs and also doubled while driving in four. Kelsi Coleman also homered and doubled with two RBIs, Monica Rodriguez had three hits and three runs batted in, while Aubriana Brown also plated a pair of runs.

Lindy Kennedy was the winning pitcher and she also helped her own cause by driving in three runs.

North Mesquite raced to a 9-2 lead but could not hold on against Tyler Lee, which outlasted them in nine innings for a 10-9 victory.

Cecelia Gonzales had four hits and three RBIs and Kierra Townsend and Kateyln White each drove in two, but it was not quite enough.

Horn had a 12-5A bye but stayed busy with a 5-4 victory over Corsicana in a non-district game.
