11-5A SOFTBALL WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Rowlett snaps skid on final day of tournament

Published: Sunday, March 3, 2013 7:27 PM CST
Last week had been one to forget for the Rowlett softball team.

The Eagles opened 11-5A play with a loss to Sachse on Tuesday and then proceeded to lose their first four games at the Wylie Tana Jo Thomason Tournament.

But Rowlett finally showed signs of getting things turned around on Saturday, picking up two wins on the final day of the event.

The Eagles (4-9) took out some frustrations with their bats in the tournament finale, bashing North Mesquite for a 20-6 victory. Rowlett pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 10 Stallion errors as they set a season-high for runs in a game.

Earlier on Saturday, the Eagles had won a game of a much closer variety, edging Irving Nimitz in a 6-5 win.

The tournament was not so kind to Rowlett on Thursday and Friday. The Eagles opened with an 11-2 loss to Poteet and followed that with a 6-0 setback to host Wylie.

On Friday, Rowlett suffered losses to Sherman (5-1) and South Grand Prairie (10-2).

The Eagles will have a bye from 11-5A play early this week.

Sachse was flying high after its win over Rowlett in the district opener but those good feelings came crashing down with four consecutive losses at the Frisco ISD Tournament.

Sachse watched an early lead dissipate in a 9-8 loss to Frisco Centennial on Thursday. The Mustangs led 7-1 after two innings, but the Titans rallied with a six-run fourth to storm back to the victory.

Kacie Rogers had a double and two RBIs, Rachel Rogers had two runs batted in and Mikala Douglas, Bry Carlisle and Emilee McDonald also drove in runs.

The Mustangs (4-8) also led early on Friday against Frisco Lone Star.

Kacie Rogers reached base three times and Mikala Douglas, Bry Carlisle and Emilee McDonald all drove in runs as they took an early lead. But Centennial exploded for five runs in both the third and fourth innings to pull away for an 11-4 win.

Saturday was a day to forget, as Sachse had losses of 8-0 to Denton Guyer and 16-0 to Keller.

The Mustangs will play at North Garland on Tuesday.
