Poteet geared up for the start of 10-4A play by winning four of its six games last week at the Wylie Tana Jo Thomason Tournament.

The Pirates closed the event on a sour note with an 11-2 loss to Wylie on Saturday but there were plenty of highlights in the previous games.

Poteet had romped over Irving MacArthur earlier in the day with a 23-1 win.

The Pirates scored at least seven runs in each of the first three innings. Brittany Foshee had four hits and had four 4RBIs, while Tristan Wells and Keairah Hanks also drove in four runs. Jordyn Graham had three hits and three runs batted in and Madison Yannetti added a two-run double.

Cassie Vasquez got the win on the mound, part of a run of three straight games where she gave up only a single run.

On Friday, she scattered 11 hits and the offense did just enough in a 3-1 win over Rockwall. Shelby Wilson had two hits, including a double, and two runs batted in, while Yannetti had a double and a RBI.

They also scored four runs in the first inning in an 8-1 victory over Garland. Wilson had a double and a pair of RBIs, with Vasquez, Hannah Jobson and Amy Krause also drove in runs.

Poteet got off to a slow start on Thursday, managing only hits from Selena Mendoza and Jobson in a 7-0 loss to Plano East.

But the Pirates heated up in the second contest as they rolled over Rowlett in an 11-2 win. Poteet took charge from the start, grabbing a 9-0 lead through three innings. Jobson had two hits and three RBIs while Mendoza had three hits and a run batted in.

Vasquez struck out four in five innings and also drove in a pair of runs.

The Pirates (10-7) will hope to start district play on the right foot on Tuesday when they face crosstown rival West Mesquite.
