It took longer than they would have liked, but North Mesquite finally notched its first victory of the season on Thursday with an 8-4 win over Irving MacArthur at the Wylie Tana Joe Thomason Tournament.
Tiara Mickens was the winning pitcher, as the Stallions helped her out with 10 hits.
North Mesquite was not as fortunate in its other game that day, dropping a 16-0 decision to Richardson.
Poteet got off to a slow start at the same event, managing only hits from Selena Mendoza and Hannah Jobson in a 7-0 loss to Plano East.
But the Pirates heated up in the second contest as they rolled over Rowlett in an 11-2 win. Poteet took charge from the start, grabbing a 9-0 lead through three innings. Jobson had two hits and three RBIs while Mendoza had three hits and a run batted in.
Cassie Vasquez struck out four in five innings and also drove in a pair of runs.
Sachse watched an early lead dissipate in a 9-8 loss to Frisco Centennial at the Frisco ISD Tournament. The Mustangs led 7-1 after two innings, but the Titans rallied with a six-run fourth to storm back to the victory.
Kacie Rogers had a double and two RBIs, Rachel Rogers had two runs batted in and Mikala Douglas, Bry Carlisle and Emilee McDonald also drove in runs.
Mesquite had a rough go on the opening day of the McKinney/McKinney Boyd Tournament. Lily Garza and Sonia Pena had runs batted in but it was not enough in a 21-3 loss to Sulphur Springs. Sara McGuire and Krystal Johnson had the only hits in a 19-0 setback to Plano.
