Election slate set as filing deadline passes

Published: Friday, March 1, 2013 5:16 PM CST
Residents had until 5 p.m. Friday to file for a place on the ballot for the municipal and school board elections on May 11.

And in the final hours, some of them were still making their candidacies official.

In Flower Mound, two candidates filed Friday to run for council seats.

Joy Bowen filed Friday afternoon to run for Place 1, which is occupied by incumbent Kendra Stephenson.

Bowen has been one of the leading vocal opponents to Lewisville ISD’s plan to rezone Flower Mound High School feeder schools.

Mike Walker, who serves on the town’s planning and zoning commission, is also a candidate for Place 1.

Also Friday afternoon, Tami Ryan filed to run for Place 5, which is held by Jean Levenick. Ryan, too, has been vocal in the rezoning debate.

Levenick has served on the council since being appointed to fill Tom Hayden’s seat last year when he ran for mayor. She also served on the council from 2008-2010.

Mark Wise, who sits on Place 3, will be unopposed.

In LISD, Flower Mound residents Ryan Collinsworth, who ran for an LISD seat three years ago, and Lisa Rossi filed Friday afternoon to run in Place 5 on the board of trustees. That spot is held by Brenda Latham, who is seeking re-election.

Place 3, which was vacated last year when Jeff Knapp moved out of the district, features Paige Shoven facing Mark Welding.

Shoven is a Lewisville resident, and Welding lives in Highland Village.

Place 4 features Flower Mound resident Kris Vaughn going up against The Colony resident Jared Brueckner. Incumbent Julie Foughty announced in January she will not seek re-election.

Four candidates have filed for Lewisville City Council, places 4 and 5. Raymond Daniels filed to run for Place 5 and Rudy Durham is seeking another term in Place 5. Councilman John Gorena announced that he will seek a third term on the Lewisville City Council in Place 4. In addition,

former Councilman Greg Tierney filed for Place 4.

The Highland Village City Council election will be canceled since none of the incumbents drew an opponent. Charlotte Wilcox is seeking another term in Place 3, as is Fred Busche (Place 5) and William Meek (Place 7).
