The Frisco Public Library's staff knows spring break is a time parents can use a much-needed relaxation session. To help, the library will offer events for children throughout the month of March.

"Frisco Public Library sees school holidays as a great opportunity to offer school-age kids fun library programs," said Jan Jackson, the library's youth services assistant. "Previous spring and winter break programs have been well attended and a good time for all -- kids and staff alike."

On March 14 and 15, the library will host kindergarten, first- and second-grade students at "K-2 Explorers: Planet Watch," a program that will teach children about the environment and animals.

The free event will be held 3-4 p.m. on both days in the children's program room, and the library will provide entry tickets on a first-come, first-served basis.

Older children will have their own events to attend as well, as the library will host "The Return of Origami Yoda" from 2-4 p.m. March 11 in the children's program room. The program will be available to third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students, providing activities such as pencil pod racing.

The same age group will also have an opportunity to see a movie at 2 p.m. the following day. Because of licensing agreements, the library can't reveal the name of the movie, but Jackson did say it's a movie "even a Wookiee would love."

Free tickets to see the movie will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Parents of children ages 9 and younger are required to be in the library while their children attend the events, but Jackson said parents are encouraged to entertain themselves with the library's adult-oriented features.

"We haven't turned anyone away from our spring break programs yet," she said. "Our room capacity is 100. Tickets for our programs become available when the library opens at 10 a.m."

Finally, children will have the opportunity to video chat with author and illustrator Dan Yaccarino at 3 p.m. March 13. Some of Yaccarino's work includes illustrating for Nickelodeon's "The Backyardigans."

Children ages 12-18 will also have programs available to them, including an introduction to filmmaking class.

For more information on any programs or to obtain entry tickets, visit the second-floor "ask us" desk at Frisco Public Library, 6101 Frisco Square Blvd., or visit www.friscolibrary.com.
