12-5A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Jaguars cruise to share of district championship, top seed

Horn entered Friday knowing it could clinch a share of the 12-5A title. That might be a position that causes nerves for some teams, but the Jaguars embraced it.
Horn jumped on Tyler Lee early and never looked back en route to a 64-23 victory. The Jaguars improved to 10-1 in district play, clinching a share of the 12-5A championship and the top seed in the playoffs.
Horn, which has won 10 consecutive district games since an opening loss to Rockwall, will try to secure the outright crown with a win over North Mesquite on Tuesday.
The Jaguars left little doubt against a Tyler Lee team that was trying to summon some passion after having its postseason hopes dashed in its previous game.
The Red Raiders could not put up much of a fight, as Horn led by 15 after one quarter and then followed with a 16-4 run to make it 38-11 at halftime.
Lauren Bradshaw scored 17 points, Tyler Hamilton scored 13 and Jada Underwood chipped in with 10 for the Jaguars.
If Horn is to slip up on Tuesday, Mesquite would be waiting to share the district championship. The Skeeters finished the regular season with a 10-2 record with Friday's 57-52 win over Rockwall.
Even if the two teams finish tied, Horn will still be the top seed due to its sweep of the head-to-head series.
The rest of the playoff field is set as well, as the Yellow Jackets will be the third seed and Longview will be the fourth. Those teams will meet on Tuesday with each trying to build momentum going into the postseason.
