12-5A GIRLS SOCCER: Horn continues winning ways with 4-1 victory over Skeeters
Published: Friday, February 15, 2013 11:30 PM CST
Courtney King had a hat trick as Horn remained undefeated in 12-5A play and improved to 13-1-1 overall on the season with a 4-1 victory over Mesquite on Friday at E.H. Hanby Stadium.
The Jaguars (3-0-1-0, 11 points) could potentially be alone in first place at the end of the night pending Longview's (3-1-0-0, nine points) outcome against Rockwall.
Horn jumped on the Skeeters (2-3-0-0, six points) early on, as King scored off an assist from Haley Hicks in the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Mesquite hung tough from there and it remained a one-score game until midway through the second half when King assisted on a goal by Liz Campos that made it 2-0.
The Jaguars put the game away with two goals in a three-minute stretch, as King scored off assists from Hicks and Joshlynn Causey to push the advantage to 4-0.
That would be plenty for goalkeeper Bayleah Hill and the Horn defense, which posted its first shutout during district play.
North Mesquite (2-2-0-1, seven points) also got a big win on Friday with a 3-1 victory against Rockwall-Heath.
Kory Dixon, Aileen Lara and Alexis Santos all found the back of the net for the Stallions, who put some distance between themsevles and the Hawks in the 12-5A standings.
Regardless of the outcome out in East Texas tonight, Horn will host Longview on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. at E.H. Hanby Stadium with first place on the line.
North Mesquite also has another good chance to pick points when they play winless Tyler Lee.
