Highland Village named safest city in Texas

The city of Highland Village has been recognized as the safest city in North Texas for the past 10 years. This year Highland Village is once again shown as the safest city in North Texas, based on information provided by the FBI's 2010 Uniform Crime Report.
Information on the FBI website confirms Highland Village is once again not only the safest city in North Texas, but the safest city in Texas with population over 10,000 and less than 100,000. This is the same criterion that has been used to give the safest city title for the past 10 years.
"The Highland Village Police Department has made it their mission to educate our citizens to lead a 'crime preventive' lifestyle. This hard work has lead to our recognition as the safest city in North Texas for the last 11 years and once again as the safest city in Texas," said Mayor Pat Davis. "I congratulate our chief of police Ed O'Bara, his department and our community for their diligence and care of Highland Village."
"Being named safest city in North Texas for the past 11 years, and the safest city in Texas again this year, is the ultimate testament that the city of Highland Village value based community policing program is a successful initiative," said Michael Leavitt, city manager. "Under Chief Ed O'Bara's leadership for the past 12 years, the Highland Village Police Department has taken the technology and resources of today and developed and trained a department of caring and professional police officers who have exceeded the public safety expectations of our community. The Highland Village Police Department has proven that their commitment to the community, and the Southern Denton County area, and their proactive response to safety and crime related issues before they affect our residents is a formula for success."
