Dallas Christian basketball teams looking good going into district tournament

The end of the regular season was a busy time for the Dallas Christian basketball teams.
Because of an early-season postponement, the Charger boys and girls both had to play two games in three nights to close out their TAPPS 2-4A slate.
Dallas Christian did not skip a beat, as both the boys and girls swept games against Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill and Parish Episcopal to go into the district tournament riding a wave of momentum.
The Charger boys had a heavyweight battle with undefeated TC-Cedar Hill on Tuesday and they were the ones that landed the knockout blow in a 50-45 victory.
The contest between the district's top two teams figured to be close and it was.
Dallas Christian led 29-23 at halftime,but TCCH shaved the deficit to one going to the fourth quarter.
But the Chargers, who got 12 points from Hayden Baker and nine each from D'Andre Cannon and Cameron Martin, were able to outscore TC-Cedar Hill 13-9 in the fourth to pull out the win.
Kevin Beasley and Albert Owens each scored 10 points to lead Cedar Hill.
Coming off that big victory, Dallas Christian could not afford a letdown and it avoided that fate by using a big fourth quarter to post a 54-45 victory over Parish Episcopal on Thursday.
The first three quarters were back-and-forth, and the teams were tied at 38-38. But the Chargers took control down the stretch, closing the game on a 17-8 run.
Alex Craig had 14 points and Dominique Weaver added 10 for Dallas Christian, while Ty Bennett had a game-high 16 pionts for Episcopal.
The Chargers improve to 17-1 overall and finish the 2-4A regular season with a perfect 8-0 record. They will be the top seed in the district tournament, which will be held on Feb. 15-16 at Whitehouse.
The Dallas Christian girls earned the second seed for the district tournament by improving to 7-1 with a 35-16 win over Parish Episcopal on Thursday.
Normally, scoring 11 points in the second half is a recipe for disaster, but when a team plays defense the way the Chargers did in the first two quarters, it is not an issue.
Dallas Christian surrendered only two points in each of the first two frames, opening a 24-4 lead at halftime and that proved to be plenty of cushion the rest of the way.
Melanie Johnson scored 11 points and Hunter Cauley and Ashlan Miles each added eight. Parish Episcopal was led by Jessi Gaul with eight points.
The Chargers had been coming off a 44-22 blowout of Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill on Tuesday. Like they did on Thursday, Dallas Christian was dominant on defense in the opening half, allowing them to open a 28-5 halftime advantage.
Cauley scored 14 points and Johnson and Miles each added eight to lead the scoring attack.
