Davis resigns from city council; at least one new face will represent the city following election

The filing season for city elections is under way in Rowlett.
So far only one candidate, Place No. 6 incumbent Michael Gallops, has filed to run and had his petition certified. Each application must be submitted and approved by the city secretary before the candidate is placed on the ballot.
To obtain an application visit Rowlett.com or the city secretary's office, 4000 Main St.
Davis was presented a plaque by Mayor Pro tem Doug Phillips for her service to the city. Davis' resignation was made necessary, as she is scheduled to move away from Rowlett this week.
"I hate to offer my resignation but since I am no longer a resident of Rowlett I must resign effective immediately," Davis said. "This city has a bright future ahead of it and there are many people here to help contribute to that."
Davis said she was honored to have been able to serve the city.
"I want to thank those that elected me for the privilege of serving this city. It's something that I have enjoyed greatly," Davis said. "It has been an absolute pleasure to serve this city."
Phillips said the city would miss Davis and her leadership on the council.
"Her effort and dedication to the city has been nothing short of fantastic," Phillips said.
His sentiments were echoed by City Manager Lynda Humble, who praised Davis as an asset to the city staff.
"There is a huge hole being left that started long before she got on council. She brought professional experience to us that we have used in a lot of ways. I can't tell you the countless number of conversations I have had with Donna," Humble said. "She is definitely leaving us better than she found us."
