The Celina basketball teams will continue their respective tournament schedules this week, with both squads traveling to road tourneys.
The Lady Bobcats will venture north to Sherman for the three-day Sherman Tournament.
Meanwhile, Celina’s boys squad will tip off action in the Leonard Tournament today. The Bobcats also enter tournament play on a high note after prevailing for a 43-42 win over former district rival Bonham on Friday.
Junior Connor Torbert led the Bobcats with 11 points in the contest that saw Celina outscore Bonham, 16-11, in the final frame.
Americans score OT win
The Allen Americans dealt a 3-2 overtime decision the way of the first-place Wichita Thunder on Saturday.
Scotty Howes sealed the victory on a game-winning power-play goal with 90 seconds remaining in overtime that was set up by Anthony Maiani. The goal marked Howes’ second of the night, raising the forward’s total to 19 on the season.
Howes also leads Allen with 30 points on the season, one better than Maiani who contributed three assists in Saturday’s win. Among those helpers was a setup to Trevor Ludwig, who scored his fourth goal of the year.
The win set pulled the Americans (18-5-2, 38 points) to within one point of top-seeded Wichita (18-8-3, 39) in the Central Hockey League standings.
Allen returns home Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. showdown with the Fort Worth Brahmas.

Hall of Honor nominations
Though the Allen ISD began enshrining people into its Hall of Honor when Eagle Stadium opened, the district is still seeking future nominees.
Candidates must be ex-athletes, employees, teams or supporters of AISD. They must have graduated from Allen at least 10 years ago and demonstrated good character throughout their post-high school athletic career. If a nominee is deceased, a representative of his/her family may accept the honor.
Nomination forms can be found at: allenisd.org.
Nominations should include as much detail as possible to help choose the best candidates. The selection committee will name recipients at an annual AISD Hall of Honor banquet.
