TopGolf teeing up unique experience

Published: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 5:30 PM CST
Fun and games and lots of money are on their way and expected to arrive in The Colony by October.

TopGolf officially broke ground on its latest Metroplex location Friday when The Colony Mayor Joe McCourry was joined by city council members, local business leaders, residents and representatives from the company to celebrate its new location at 3760 Blair Oaks Drive.

In addition to the entertainment aspect TopGolf plans to bring to the community, its economic infusion is expected to be significant.

"We are going to be creating close to 300 jobs and we estimate our economic impact to be close to $50 million in The Colony alone over the next 10 years," said TopGolf representative Adrienne Brown.

The 65,000-square foot facility will feature 4,000 square feet of event space and 102 climate-controlled hitting bays.

Players hit golf balls containing computer microchips that track each shot's accuracy and distance while also awarding points for hitting targets in the outfield. Food and beverages will be available to help stimulate an entertainment complex fashioned around the idea of a neighborhood hangout that highlights a unique competition venue.

"The Colony is proud that TopGolf has chosen our city for its 10th location worldwide," said Keri Samford, director of The Colony Economic Development. "This deal represents exciting economic growth for The Colony. Not to mention, TopGolf has shown our city council from Day One that it is invested in this community and committed to being a good neighborhood partner."

Brown underscored Samford's assertion by noting the community involvement the company has already undertaken.

"TopGolf has always been committed to being a great neighborhood partner. For instance, we have already visited some of the local schools to gauge their needs so that we can provide our time and resources to support their education curriculum and extra-curricular initiatives," she said.

Brown also noted there were a number of factors involved in TopGolf choosing The Colony.

"We chose The Colony because it's a really great area for both retail and dining opportunities, and it compliments our other two operations in Allen and Dallas, and because it's such a fast-growing area."
