Parker seeking interns in Capitol office

Wednesday, State Rep. Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) announced that his office is taking applications for Capitol office interns for the spring semester, which coincides with the 2013 Legislative Session. District constituents who are attending college in the Austin area and interested in gaining a first-hand perspective of state government are encouraged to apply.
"As a former White House intern myself, I take great pride and responsibility in my internship program," Parker stated. "It is an excellent opportunity to mentor young adults and foster their interest in state government while providing them with a valuable employment experience that will help them achieve their goals in life."
Interns in Parker's Capitol office are responsible for managing the day to day tasks of running a professional office, as well as assisting with office external communications, analyzing legislation, tracking Parker's bills through the legislative process, among other tasks. Qualified applicants should possess strong communication and organizational skills, demonstrate professionalism and a great work ethic, be willing to participate in a myriad of office tasks and hold a genuine interest in furthering their studies of the Texas Legislature.

Capitol office internships are unpaid positions, but offer an opportunity for one to further their professional development and even launch a career in public service. Former Parker Capitol interns from such area high schools as Marcus, Flower Mound High and Lewisville have gone on to full time careers working for the Texas Legislature or other facets of public service.
Initially elected on Nov. 7 of 2006, Parker represents both rural and urban parts of Denton County which encompasses the cities of Flower Mound, Argyle, Lantana, Dish, Ponder, Justin, Northlake, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Bartonville, Trophy Club, Roanoke and portions of Lewisville, Fort Worth, Highland Village, Westlake and Southlake.
Preparing for his fourth term in the Texas Legislature, Parker is focusing his efforts on economic development, job creation, strengthening border security and immigration policy, promoting fiscally responsible government spending, providing a strong public education system and protecting family values. Parker is the current Vice Chairman of the Rules and Resolutions Committee. He also serves on the Corrections, Urban Affairs and Manufacturing Committees.
