11-5A GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles punch ticket to playoffs with victory over Sachse

Rowlett continued its mastery of the 11-5A schedule on Tuesday with a 59-50 victory over Sachse.
The Eagles improve to 8-0 in district play, maintaining a one-and-a-half game lead over Lakeview, while wrapping up one of the four playoff berths from 11-5A.
The Mustangs, who slipped to 5-4 in district, were coming off a big win over the Patriots and looked to carry that momentum over when they grabbed an early four-point lead.
Dominique Oliver scored a game-high 19 points and Mersades Carter added 15 for the Eagles. Alexis Rene led the way for the Mustangs with 17 points, with Monica Dorsey chipping in with nine.
Despite the loss, Sachse still has a two-and-a-half game lead over Garland for the fourth and final playoff spot and can clinch on Friday with a victory over the Owls.
Lakeview, which has also secured a postseason spot, will travel to play Naaman Forest on Friday with the winner taking over sole possession of second place.
Rowlett will try to remain perfect in 11-5A this week when it plays at South Garland on Friday and at home against Naaman Forest on Tuesday.
FRIDAY
Rowlett showed no signs of rust after its distrct bye on Friday with a 75-29 rout of Garland to remain undefeated in 11-5A play.
The Eagles scored 27 points in the opening quarter to open a big lead and then outscored the Owls 28-11 during the middle two quarters to blow the game open.
Oliver had 15 points to lead a balanced scoring effort that saw 11 different players score. Harlie Greer and Courtney Fine were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Sachse picked up a huge victory on Friday with a 59-42 win over Lakeview as it solidified its hold on a playoff spot over the second-place team in 11-5A.
The Mustangs grabbed an early lead but it remained tight for three quarters, with them taking a 40-34 advantage to the fourth. It was all Sachse from that point, as it closed the game on a 19-8 run to secure the win.
Dorsey had 15 points, Courtney Blankenship scored 13 and Rene added 12 to pace the Mustang offense.
