A man and at least one dog perished in a house fire in Carrollton Wednesday night.

Herb Cavanaugh, fire inspector for the Carrollton Fire Department, said firefighters were called to 2311 Westbrook Drive about 7 p.m.

On arrival, firefighters found the brick home fully involved.

Cavanaugh said firefighters found the bodies of a man and a dog in the house. Although neighbors said the man had three dogs, firefighters found the body of only one dog, Cavanaugh said.

The man was later identified as Leland Clay McGee, 65. Cavanaugh said the man’s identification had been withheld until family members could be notified and until the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office made a positive identification.

Cavanaugh said the cause of the fire has not been determined.

A witness who lives a short distance north of the house said she heard a boom and went outside and saw the house totally engulfed in flames.

Once firefighters arrived at the scene, a second alarm was immediately called, and more firefighters from Carrollton and Addison arrived shortly.
