Little Sweetheart Dance features 'Hollywood Nights' theme

The Rowlett Parks and Recreation Department is looking for a few young starlets and their fathers to take a stroll on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The city is hosting its annual Little Sweetheart Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Rowlett Community Centre, 5300 Main St.
"This is a chance for the dads to have the chance to spend time with their daughters in a fun environment," said Adam Richter, special events coordinator for the city of Rowlett.
This year the dance will revolve around a Hollywood Nights theme.
"We will offer valet service with a red carpet. There will be stars on the floor to simulate the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We want to create the experience that they are going to a big Hollywood event like the Grammys," Richter said.
He said the parks and recreation staff decided on the theme after looking at the past years of the dance and the various themes that were offered.
"'Hollywood Nights' seemed like a good idea. It is something completely different than we have done before," Richter said.
Richter said he is working on securing a few volunteers to pose as paparazzi to add to the overall entrance experience.
The dance is open to dads and their daughters from ages 2 to 19. The cost is $40 per couple, with a $15 fee for each additional daughter. The ticket price includes valet service, a keepsake photo, a special gift, snacks, candy and drinks. The parks and recreation department has already pre-tipped the valets, so tipping will not be necessary.
"We really want everyone to use the valet service. It's totally free and it will add to their experience," Richter said.
Tickets are on sale at the Rowlett Community Centre and space is limited. All attendees are asked to register by Jan. 25. For information on the dance, call the community center at 972-412-6170.
