FLOWER MOUND, Texas ---- Seven-time Tony Award-nominated musical comedy Legally Blond the Musical hits the Flower Mound High School stage Feb. 1-4 for four shows presented by the FMHS Performing Arts Department.

Performances of Legally Blonde the Musical are scheduled Feb. 1-2 and 4 (Friday, Saturday and Monday) at 7 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Feb. 3 (Sunday). All performances will be staged at the FMHS Jack and Donna Clark Auditorium, 3411 Peters Colony Road, Flower Mound. Legally Blonde the Musical is not suitable for young children.

Reserved seat tickets for Legally Blonde the Musical are $15.00, $12.00 and $8.00. General admission tickets are also available for $8.00. Public ticket sales are scheduled at the FMHS Office Atrium Jan. 14 and 16, from 7:30-8:30 a.m.; Jan. 23, 25, 28-30, Feb. 1 and 4 at the FMHS Office Atrium from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.; and Jan. 19 and 26 from 9 a.m.-noon at the FMHS Auditorium lobby. Sales are by check or cash only. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door beginning one hour before the scheduled curtain time.

Based on the 2001 film Legally Blonde starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde the Musical follows sorority star-turned-law student Elle Woods from the social whirl of California campus life to Harvard University’s halls of justice. FMHS senior Brooklyn Smith is cast as the upbeat Elle who follows ex-boyfriend Warner Huntington III (Ben Hladky) to Harvard only to learn he is dating a more “serious” woman, Vivienne Kensington (Morgan Haney). With chutzpah and a touch of naivete’, Elle wins the admiration of the student body and the love fellow law student Emmett Forrest, played by senior Conner Scallan. The singing and dancing feel-good comedy pumps up the pink with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin including “Bend and Snap,” “Positive” and “So Much Better.”

Under the direction of Scott Taylor and musical director Dr. Mark Rohwer, over 170 Flower Mound High School students are involved with the all-school musical production on the stage, in the orchestra and with the technical crews. The FMHS performances of Legally Blonde the Musical are produced by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

EXTRAS

FMHS International Thespian Society Troupe #6154 will be collecting items for the Flower Mound Humane Society during all four performances of Legally Blonde the Musical. Dubbed “Bones for Bruiser” after Elle Woods’ scene-stealing Chihuahua Bruiser, the students will be accepting gift cards to Petco or PetSmart, clumping cat litter, Nutro brand dog and cat food, dog and cat beds, paper towels, Lysol spray, antibacterial hand soap, trash bags and collapsible dog crates for donation to the Flower Mound Humane Society.

FMHS International Thespian Society Troupe 6154 will conduct a silent auction during each performance of Legally Blonde the Musical. Funds raised will assist troupe members in attending the ITS National Festival in June and the Texas State Thespian Festival next fall.
