Bert Isbell

Bert Isbell, 90, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on December 26, 2012.

He was born on April 4, 1922, in Pampa, Texas, to Rebecca Kinzer and Archer Bert Isbell.

He was a 1941 graduate of Pampa High School, where he played football for the Pampa Harvesters. Bert enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1942 and served in the Pacific and was a WWII veteran.

After his discharge in 1945, Bert finished college on the GI Bill and began a 34-year career in Texas public schools. He coached in Skellytown, Valley View and Celina before coming to Frisco. He was the first elementary principal of Frisco School, where he served as principal of Acker Elementary for 19 years.

Bert married Eloise Knox on June 18, 1950, in Ponder, Texas. He was a longtime member of Rockhill Church of Christ.

Bert was a recipient of the Silver Citizen of the Year in 2010 from the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. Frisco ISD named an elementary school in Bert's honor, Isbell Elementary. He was also a member of the Frisco Association of Retired School Personnel and the Heritage Association of Frisco, as well as a member of the Lions Club.

Bert is survived by his wife, Eloise Isbell; three children, Judy Isbell, Lynn Cain and her husband, Chris and Bert Isbell Jr.; and four grandchildren, Travis Isbell, Katie Isbell, Jacob Cain and Tyler Cain.

Bert was preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca and Bert Isbell.

A memorial service was held at Rockhill Church of Christ on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. with Brother Jim Pyburn officiating. A visitation was held at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco on Friday, December 28, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m.
