Holiday Helping Hands: Children's Hunger Fund brings first ever toy wrap to North Texas

An international charity and a Carrollton business are teaming up to make sure no child is without a gift on Christmas.
On Saturday, Dec. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon, Children's Hunger Fund is bringing their annual toy wrap to North Texas to benefit disadvantaged children in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. This will be CHF's first toy wrap in North Texas.
The event will be hosted by FirstFitness Nutrition in their 50,000 square foot warehouse, located in Carrollton.
"We want to unite families, businesses, and individuals in the community and give hope to children who are suffering in poverty," Dave Phillips, president of Children's Hunger Fund said.
Children's Hunger Fund is a Christian nonprofit organization committed to Gospel-centered mercy ministry for more than 20 years, using food as a catalyst to nourish the bodies and feed the souls of children in need. CHF has distributed more than 1 billion dollars in food and other resources, serving the needs of more than 20 million children throughout the U.S. and in 72 countries worldwide. Since 1991, 99 percent of CHF's total revenue has been used for programs helping kids.
Nigel Branson, president and co-founder of FirstFitness, said his company is proud to host the event and motivated by CHF's selfless mission.
"They absolutely do what they do for the love of the children and families they're here to help," Branson said. "They're inspirational to be around."
Branson also said that events like the toy wrap give his company a chance to serve the community, though he added that his focus was on the children, not promotion.
"It's an opportunity to give back, and have a social outreach," Branson said. "We don't do this for any publicity at all, because we don't need it."
Several notable volunteers will be attending the toy wrap, including Carrollton mayor Matthew Marchant and Dallas Cowboy legend Mel Renfro.
Those wishing to roll up their sleeves and pitch in will need to register to volunteer before the event. According to FirstFitness Communications Director Carol Leben, approximately half of the 300 available volunteer positions have been registered.
