A certain Ringwald to it: Golden Grip excels at Pretty in Pink Meet

Published: Saturday, October 13, 2012 12:47 AM CDT
Golden Grip wrapped up its regular season schedule three weeks ago at the Pretty in Pink Meet at Infinite Bounds in Plano.

Judging by the results, the Plano-based gym is ready for the postseason.

"The girls have improved with each meet this season," said Evgueni Indioukov, Golden Grip head coach and owner. "All of them have qualified for district championships and I expect them to continue on their winning streak."

As has been the case all year, Level 3 started the day strong.

Gracie Flores bested a field of 42 gymnasts by finishing first in the vault (9.3), uneven bars (9.5) and beam (9.6). Flores also finished third on the floor exercise (9.1) en route to the all-around (37.5) title.

The Level 4 team was led by Anna Ichiba.

Ichiba doubled up in medals with a bronze on vault (9.400) and in the all-around (37.30). Plano resident Hannah Rhodes was right behind her teammate in the all-around as she placed fourth (36.65). In the Junior B division, Carolyn Lindberg took home a bronze on the vault (9.025) and beam (9.00), which led to a third-place all-around finish (36.325). Once again a Golden Grip representative placed fourth overall with Brooke Hudy (36.00) filling the role this time thanks to her silver medal on bars (9.05). In the Senior division, a pair of Planoites stood out with Abigail Moriearty finishing second on vault (9.450) and Araceli Wilk placing third on beam (8.65). Jillian Melander rounded out the Level 4 medals with a silver on vault (9.1).

A new level brought more medals.

Pacing the performance for the Level 5 gymnasts from Golden Grip was Allen's Daria Indioukov, who brought home a slew of medals. Indioukov captured a silver on vault (8.8) and bronzes on bars (9.150) and beam (8.750) in the Junior A category. In Senior A, Emma Lindberg assured her trip home would be a noisy one with a silver medal on vault (8.0) and four bronze medals. The bronzes came via the bars (9.375), beam (9.2), floor (9.175) and all-around (36.650). In the Level 5 Senior B division, Julia Savarese captured a gold medal in the all-around. That medal wouldn't be lonely as she also placed first on vault (8.6) and bars (9.150), second on floor (9.350) and third on beam (8.6).

In the Level 5 Achievement division, Kimberly Davis earned a silver medal for vault (8.2) while Chancey Anderson procured a bronze for the same event (8.05).

The Level 6 team struck gold as well with Shelby Peterson winning the vault (9.350) in the Junior A division. Peterson's teammate Te'ja Morgan, a Plano resident, matched that feat in the Senior B division (9.60).
