Local student seeks pageant crown

Published: Tuesday, October 23, 2012 1:24 PM CDT
Eight-year-old Sierra Repsky likes to talk, sing and model.

She hopes those will impress judges enough to earn her a crown.

Repsky, a third grader at Johnson Elementary School, was recently selected to participate in the 2012 Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Fort Worth Pageant, which will take place Nov. 3.

She will be among several others competing for her share of prizes and specialty gifts. Repsky will compete in the Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Division, which is for girls ages 7-9.

Sierra was chosen after taking part in an interview session in which she was asked a variety of questions, including why she wants to take part in the competition. About 40 percent of the girls who went through the interviewe were selected.

“I want to meet new people and get experience,” said Sierra, who wants to be an actress/model, as well as an Olympic equestrian.

Repsky was also asked what kind of animal she would be if she could be one.

“I would want to be a horse,” Sierra said. “I love them, and they’re so free.”

Sierra knows first hand how free horses are. She has trained at the Bridlewood Equestrian Center in Flower Mound for about six months – almost three years overall – and has competed in local horse shows, where she has won more than 30 ribbons.

“She really is a free spirit,” said her mother, Kelly Repsky.

Kelly recalls a competition in which her daughter quickly showed off that free spirit. In 2008, she won the Little Miss Southlake competition when she was named Entertainer of the Year.

“She was tiny,” her mother said. “But she went on stage, grabbed the microphone away from me and sang to her dog. She didn’t want to have anything to do with me.”

Kelly said her daughter’s best attribute is her personality, which she said shined through in the first round of the competition.

“She’s real bubbly,” Kelly said. “Sometimes I feel like I have to coach her, but I really don’t because she doesn’t need me to.”

Besides the interview, other components of the competition will be a modeling routine, which includes casual and formal wear. Sierra said she enjoys that.

“I’m really interested in seeing all the girls wear their beautiful gowns and seeing them walk on the stage,” Sierra said.

Should Sierra win Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Fort Worth, she will qualify for the national competition, which takes place next year in Orlando, Fla. where she will compete for her share of $30,000 in prizes and awards.

Community businesses, organizations and individuals can help her cause by donating money that goes toward pageant training.

For sponsorship opportunities, contact Kelly at drepsky@verizon.net. Kelly said checks can be made out to 2012 Miss Teen Fort Worth Pageant, and she can pick them up for convenience. Sponsors will be listed in the pageant program.
