Live Nativity next two weekends at St. Ann’s

It is not unusual to see Nativity scenes in front of churches and other buildings during the Christmas season, with figures made of clay, wood, ceramics or other materials.
But people who drive by St. Ann’s Catholic Parish on Saturday night or Sunday night for the next couple of weeks may take a second glance and say, “Did I see those figures move?”
It’s because they are real people.
St. Ann’s has offered a live Nativity during the Christmas season for the last two decades and this year is no exception.
Those who go by the church, located at 180 Samuel Boulevard in Coppell, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. the next two weekends will see a live Mary, Joseph, wise men, shepherds and even an angel named Gabriel.
Mike Leminger, director of St. Ann Youth (SAY), said the live Nativity scenes are enacted by students from the church’s middle school ministry.
“Mary, Joseph, the three wise men and the angel Gabriel are the main roles,” Leminger said. “We also have a lead shepherd. The other youth rotate, portraying shepherds or angels.”
Members of the parish’s Men’s Club built the Nativity set and set it up and take it down each year. Some of the wooden animals on the set have been made by different parishioners over the years.
“The Live Nativity allows us take a step back from the craziness of the season to really remember the real reason that we celebrate Christmas,” Leminger said. “In addition, it’s a tradition that is very engrained into the Coppell community that many families and people here in the community look forward to watching every year.”
St. Ann’s Catholic Parish is one of the largest, if not the largest, Catholic church in North Texas.
The parish has almost 8,900 registered households and almost 30,000 members.
