The Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County is starting off the New Year with football superstar Terry Bradshaw, as the "Blonde Bomber" has partnered with the center for its first executive luncheon on Jan. 17.

The event, sponsored by Caron Texas and emceed by WFAA sports anchor Dale Hansen, will feature the widely known NFL studio personality, whose keynote address is titled, "Why Not Your Best," a call to inspire and motivate to take action against child abuse.

"We selected someone that would have strong name recognition for both men and women," said Melanie Carroll, vice president of development for the center. "Terry was thrilled to have the opportunity to speak to the Dallas market and excited to support the fundraising efforts of the center."

Bradshaw played 14 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, won four Super Bowl titles in a six-year period in the 70's and became the first quarterback to win three and four Super Bowls. The two-time Super Bowl MVP was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1989.

Aside from his famed career as a football analyst, the former Steelers quarterback also found success on TV and the big screen, and even dabbled in singing.

The luncheon is designed to generate funds to support the programs of the Children's Advocacy Center of Collin County while delivering a message to the community about the issue of child abuse and the importance of every community member "joining the fight" to end child abuse and neglect, Carroll said.

This luncheon is just another way the center calls on the community to help spread the awareness and has become a model for other centers around the world, she added.

"We have a golf tournament, a motorcycle ride and a black-tie gala, but [we] have not hosted an executive style luncheon," Carroll said. "Last year marked our 20th year of service to the community. To date, we have provided services to over 43,000 children victimized by abuse or neglect. Our center is nationally and internationally recognized as a model for best practices for advocacy centers."

Luncheon sponsor Caron Texas is an alcohol and drug treatment provider with rehabilitation facilities in Princeton, as well as in Pennsylvania and Florida. With both organizations specializing in healing families, Caron is excited to be a part of the center's first executive luncheon, said Amara Durham, director of marketing and community relations for Caron Texas.

"The CCCAC and Caron Texas share a very similar mission of providing healing that reaches across any barriers - socioeconomic, religious, gender and age group," Durham said. "Both entities provide confidential, yet very vital services to a broad base of the community. Both entities provide the confidential and critical path for putting lives back together."

The CCCAC model is recognized as state-of-the art and was even the prototype for the new Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, which is under construction, Durham said. Similarly, Caron Texas is also known as the premiere treatment model for addiction treatment.

"We believe that Caron Texas, in order to establish and strengthen its presence in Collin County, has made a very wise choice to support such a worthy cause that, when broken down into its most basic form, is dealing with another form of addiction and destructive behavior that can be treated," she said.
