Frisco voters approved two local option elections allowing for the sale of alcoholic beverages in areas of the cities that were annexed after the last wet/dry election.

The result of the two local option elections will allow restaurants in those areas to sell mixed alcoholic drinks, and area stores will now be able to sell beer and wine for off-premise consumption.

According to election results in Denton County and Collin County, the mixed beverage election passed with about 72.51 percent of the votes, and the beer and wine sale election passed with about 78.34 percent of the vote.

Frisco Mayor Maher Maso said the elections were a clear indictment of what Frisco's residents want.

"I always, 100 percent of the time, support the voters' wishes," he said. "It's really just about uniformity, but because we've annexed new territories in, those areas were not part of the previous election. So the citizens had an opportunity to weigh in, and we support them making that decision."

Overall, 31,007 voters in Denton and Collin counties voted for the mixed beverage proposition, and 11,755 voted against the proposition. The sale of beer and wine proposition received 33,610 votes in support and 9,290 votes against.
