Christmas is nearly here, which means one of the area's largest Christmas-themed craft shows is just around the corner.
The 34th Annual Christmas Craft Fair is being held Saturday at the Oak Point Recreation Center in Plano. More than 60 vendors will be selling their wares, ranging from ornaments and tree skirts to decorative wreaths and yard art.
"These are mainly mom-and-pop vendors from Texas, but we also have people coming in from Oklahoma and Arkansas," said Karen Williams, parks and recreation event coordinator with the city of Plano. "Most shows are geared more toward the gift buyer, but a lot of our vendors sell things that people will buy to put in their own homes rather than give as a gift."
"The Plano fair has always been very busy," Madison said. "It is a very nice craft fair and you can usually find almost anything you are looking for. And the best part is that it is free to get in."
One of Madison's most popular ornaments is her family ornament, which changes each year to ensure she has repeat customers. The family ornaments have a Christmas theme, with room for each family member's name, as well as the year the ornament was purchased.
"I do everything from scratch," Madison said. "I take a piece of wood and cut out the design and then paint and glaze the ornaments by hand. They are then personalized at the show."
The show runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Oak Point Recreation Center, 6000 Jupiter Parkway. For information on Madison's ornaments, visit lesliesornaments.webs.com.
