How About an Apple With That Chikin Sandwich

Published: Friday, October 5, 2012 4:36 PM CDT
Eve with all the fruits of Eden blest, save only one, rather than leave that one unknown, lost all the rest.

Some folks believe the first commandment in the Bible was when Eve told Adam to bite her apple. It's interesting to note that in the Biblical account, the first man and woman on earth were involved in a disagreement over relationships and some kind of food.

That's especially ironic today with all the clatter over statements made by the Chick-fil-A founder to a Baptist magazine reporter. The fast food chain's founder has supported organizations that believe marriage should be only between a man and a woman. His statements are now being called hate speech and he's been labeled a hater.

In a fever to appease America's newly recognized minority group, the gay, lesbian and transgenders, some elected officials felt a duty to tell the Chick-fil-A organization they weren't welcome in their domain.

Obviously some in government would use the power of their office to shut down businesses not because laws were violated or regulations weren't followed but because they don't like the owners statements on same sex marriage.

Only a male and female can sustain the human race. That's the natural order of life on earth.

There's no way that gay, lesbian and transgender folks can set themselves apart as a separate strain of Homo Sapiens. But their personal preferences and activities, being amongst consenting adults, is nobody's business in this world but theirs.

As for me, I don't care what two adults of the same sex want to call their living arrangement.... I lose none of my inalienable rights if they want to ceremoniously call it a marriage. What's troubling is that folks are being labeled homophobes and haters if they disagree with that notion.

Catholic Bishop Savatore Cordileone recently said "expressions of disagreement based simply on support for marriage as understood since time immemorial are wrongly being treated as if they harm society and somehow constituted a form of evil".

Even Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farakhan, who is welcome in Chicago where Chick-fil-Ais not, has publicly stated gay marriage is "a sin according to the standard of God" and something "the scriptures forbid."

Those that would ban certain legal activities among gay adults are as guilty of meddling in the private lives of citizens as those who are trying to pass off progressive opinions as rights.

As in the contraceptive fiasco whereby the government mandates that student Sandra Fluke has a right to have a Catholic college provide free contraceptives. Sandra Fluke is an attractive articulate woman. I'm sure she can find dates that would be glad to pay for condoms or at least, split the cost with her. Government has no business forcing colleges or businesses into subsidizing sexual activity amongst consenting adults.

What I believe has happened with the rush to label Chick-fil-A's founder a hater and his statements as hate speech is the populace has awakened to the fact that the most fundamental right of all, free speech, is under attack.

Folks didn't pack the fast food chain on August 1st cause suddenly they wanted to eat mor chikin. They were there because they're tired of the double speak hypocrisy rolling off the lips of those obsessed with moving America into a secular agenda.

The turnout in Collin County cut across a wide spectrum of citizens. At the Chick-fil-A on Stacy Road, Commissioners Court Judge Keith Self was in line with old folks, baby boomers and, according to their T shirts, Lovejoy Leopards and Allen Eagles. He said he was there to "show support for a company that demonstrates in practice that Biblical values and faith can't be excluded from the public square".

I don't know if there were any elected officials in line at the Chick-fil-A on McDermott. The place was packed and you couldn't tell who was in there. It was the same in Plano.

All the clatter over Chick-fil-A brings to mind the indisputable fact that a man and woman are the foundation of a family. And families are the foundation of society. Is that a plan ordained by God? The Bible says it is. Am I a hater if I believe what the Bible says?
