The fiscal advancement of any community can rest almost completely in the hands of its residents.
A vitalized economy is fed by the spending habits of consumers - enhancing employment, sales tax, property values, salaries and more. In order to maximize the opportunities for local communities to thrive, local residents must spend their budgeted dollars locally.
In an attempt to help residents understand the value of keeping their money close to home, Star Local Media, in conjunction with several partners, is kicking off a "Shop Local" program in all of its markets. This program will spotlight businesses, entrepreneurs, success stories, the importance of growing sales tax and the convenience and value of national retail stores operating in area cities.
Roger Will, publisher of Star Local Media, said the Shop Local program is designed to teach and remind consumers of the need to loyally visit area businesses.
"The media plays an important role in educating the community," Will said. "We also believe that we must be a booster for our communities. When a resident shops at his neighborhood store, they are generating jobs for others and sales taxes that build our community. Simply making a decision to buy in your neighborhood can cause a profound change in our economy locally and in our quality of life.
"There are a lot of businesses locally that carry unique items and provide excellent service. We should all make it a point to search out these community gems and help them to succeed."
Over the next several weeks, Star Local Media will be bringing to you stories about how community businesses - both large and small - are a necessary force in the quality lifestyle of each resident.
Star Local Media looks forward to bringing you information on area businesses and the value of shopping local. To stay on top of our Shop Local initiative, visit our website at scntx.com.
