CFD open house, health fair provide fun and information
By Dan Eakin, deakin@starlocalnews.com
People of all ages came to Coppell Fire Station 3 Sunday afternoon to enjoy activities and to get information about health and safety issues.
“We had a little smaller crowd than last year, probably because of the weather,” said Tim Oates of the Coppell Fire Department. “However, everyone had a good time and all in all, it was a success.”
Outside the fire station, children played in a bounce house and participated in numerous games that were set up by Giggly Kids.
Also outside, firefighters offered several demonstrations, including rope climbing and rescue demonstrations.
Inside the fire station, about 15 vendors were set up, including one of a dentist, one of a chiropractor and of Pink Soles in Motion, an organization raising breast cancer awareness funds and providing information. Several health service organizations also were on hand to offer information.
The free event focused on educating the community about injury prevention, safety awareness and emergency preparedness. Parents and their children met with firefighters and law enforcement officers. Representatives of local businesses offered health and safety related services and shared information.
Technical rescue demonstrations and health screenings were offered, and weather awareness information was provided. Many who attended toured an ambulance and a police vehicle. Fire apparatus from surrounding cities was also on hand.
Personnel from EMS, fire and police were also on hand to discuss career opportunities with those interested.
