Robert W. (Bob) Richter
Robert W. (Bob) Richter, age 79, passed away September 19, 2012, in Richardson, Texas.
Bob was born July 31, 1933 in Auburn, Indiana to Albert Dale Welch and Jessie Lenore Dull Welch. Following Albert's death, Jessie married Kenneth Murrell Richter, of Oklahoma City, who adopted Bob.

After graduating from Northeast High School in Oklahoma City, Bob attended the University of Oklahoma, but his studies were interrupted in 1954 when he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving two years as an artillery specialist stationed in Erlangen, Germany.

Following his service, he graduated from OU with a Bachelor of Science in geology. His passion for petroleum took him across the globe: from, among other places, the oil fields of Tyler, Texas (Texaco) to the Gulf of Siam and Bangkok, Thailand for two years (Texas Pacific Oil) to Dallas where he retired from Enserch Exploration in 1995. He was Southwest Section President of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG, 1994-1995) and was presented a Professional Service Award in 1993 from the Dallas Geological Society.

After his retirement, his enthusiasm for geology continued as he taught courses at Collin County Community College and developed independent well prospects.

Among his many interests, Bob was an avid rockhound. He was a loving father and grandfather and beloved by friends and family for his warmth and sharp sense of humor.

Bob is survived by his son, Chris Richter, and his daughter-in-law, Michelle, of Murphy, Texas; his daughter, Erin Stevenson, and his son-in-law, Ken, of Rockville Centre, New York; and his eight grandchildren, Megan Richter, Ashley Richter, Connor Richter, Jonny Bertrand, Cyndi Bertrand, Maddie Bertrand, Callum Stevenson, and Cora Stevenson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kenneth, and his wife of 46 years, Char.
