Lady Lions place second in Frisco

Prestonwood Christian Academy volleyball continued its torrid tournament pace over the weekend by going 6-1 and placing second at the Frisco Invitational.

Not only did the Lady Lions win six straight matches (Carrollton RL Turner, Frisco Liberty, Frisco Heritage, McKinney North, Canyon Randall and Carrollton Creekview) en route to the finals, the team allowed an opponent to reach the 20s only once before losing to Rockwall-Heath in the championship match Saturday.

Prestonwood was defeated by Heath in the finals (25-18, 25-22).

That loss aside, the Lady Lions should have plenty of momentum rolling into their district opener, which is 6 p.m. today when they host Argyle Liberty Christian.

John Paul II goes 4-4 at Pearland

The Lady Cardinals volleyball team broke even over the weekend, amassing a 4-4 record at the NIKE Pearland Volleyball Classic.

John Paul II placed 50th in the 79-team field.

The Lady Cardinals opened with losses to Amarillo and Clear Creek, but finished pool play last Thursday with a sweep of Cy-Ridge.

After a loss to San Antonio Johnson to begin Friday's slate, John Paul went on a three-match win streak over the next two days by defeating Clear Brook, Waller and Klein Collins. The Lady Cardinals lost their final match Saturday to Richardson Pearce (19-25, 25-22, 25-15) to finish at 4-4.

John Paul opens district play at 6 p.m. today on the road against Fort Worth Nolan.
