Fort Wildflower committee thanks local organizations for support
From staff reports
Within the last several weeks, the Fort Wildflower community-built playground committee has been overwhelmed by the community’s efforts to “Support the Fort.”
WinKids and Agave Azul restaurant have hosted a Fort Wildflower display promoting the project while offering incentives to patrons who purchased a personalized brick or picket.
The Flower Mound Rotary Club and the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce have also been valuable supporters and sponsored several elements of the playground, which was uniquely designed by the imagination of Flower Mound children.
It’s not too late to sponsor or volunteer time for Fort Wildflower. Approximately 3,500 shifts need to be filled for the Sept. 11–15 build week.
There are three, four-hour shifts per day in the areas of construction, childcare, preparing and distributing build materials, serving meals and supplying water to volunteers, or creating artwork for the playground.
No construction experience is necessary and all volunteers must be 15 years of age or older. Sign up to volunteer at www.fortwildflower.com.
In addition to helping hands, Fort Wildflower cannot be constructed without the necessary equipment. The project is in need of tools such as 3/8-inch hand drills, circular saws, jigsaws, wheelbarrows, post hole diggers, and more. Organizers are committed to taking great care of loaned tools by labeling them and returning them to their proper owners in the same, or better, working condition.
If an individual or business can help with any of these items, send an e-mail to r.pw@verizon.net.
Anyone who would like to lend tools during Build Week has the option to drop them off at the Community Activity Center, 1200 Gerault Road, during business hours through Sept. 7.

" One of the most wholesome elements of life in small town America is the opportunity to know who your neighbors are and participate with them to improve the living conditions for yourself and your family. The Fort Wildflower event is one example of bringing the community together for a worthwhile event. By reaching out to area residents in the building of a playground, the Support the Fort effort will tap into the natural instinct people have to join with their neighbors in the benevolent type of fellowship that built this great nation. In addition, local businesses such as Texas Roadhouse, Agave Azul and WinKids are to be complimented for doing their part to support this magnificent display of community involvement. Moreover, those two entrepreneurial pillars of the business sector, the Flower Mound Chamber of Commerce and the Flower Mound Rotary, are right there, rolling up their sleeves to help. Decent, compassionate people are the pieces of the puzzle that, together, illustrate the sense of security and harmony existing around us. These are but a few of the reasons why this town is such a marvelous place to live, as evidenced by our rankings in some of the most popular magazines across the country. "
