Volunteer McKinney gets new director, location

Volunteer McKinney, an organization that helps recruit and place volunteers for various projects in the city, has a new executive director and location.

Dana Riley, who has more than 20 years experience working with volunteers in government and nonprofit groups, will now direct the organization that recently relocated to the McKinney Chamber of Commerce building at Summit Park 1, 2150 S. Central Expressway.

Volunteer McKinney previously had its office on the second floor above Spoons Café in downtown McKinney.

Before taking the position in McKinney, Riley held top management positions with the Volunteer Center of North Texas between 2006 and 2009, and later was assistant human resources administrator for the Dallas County Juvenile Department. She was most recently an independent consultant working out of Wylie.

Mike Foster, Volunteer McKinney board president, said, "The board is excited to have Dana Riley leading us in our efforts to serve this community."

Riley introduced herself to the McKinney City Council last week.

"I am excited to become a part of the Volunteer McKinney Center, where I can use the skills and insight I have gained during my career to make a difference in the community," Riley said. "The McKinney area has so many wonderful nonprofits and community groups. I am honored to get to work alongside them as we serve."

She added, "Our new partnership with the McKinney Chamber is one we are very proud of. Our new office inside their building will make our collaboration more seamless and the entire McKinney community will benefit.

"The positive energy and professional focus of the McKinney chamber is contagious, and we are so pleased to be able to serve this community in partnership with them. They set the bar high in their service, and we will do the same for local nonprofits and community groups."

Though Riley is the only paid staff member for Volunteer McKinney, she said, "The board donates countless volunteer hours to help us achieve our mission."

In addition to Foster, other board members are Sue Bohner, Daryl Booth, Lisa Bourassa, Aretha Harvey, Danny Ledbetter, Scott Snellings, Doc Vranici, LeRoy Wilkerson and Trish Yanes.
