Library Wins Grant

Published: Tuesday, August 14, 2012 10:35 AM CDT
The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), awarded The Colony Public Library a Summer Teen Internship Program Grant. The grant, funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, provided $1,000 to hire and train two teen interns this summer.

"We are honored to have been selected as one of only forty libraries across the nation to receive this grant," said library director Joan L. Sveinsson. "We have been fortunate to have some wonderful teens volunteering for us each summer to help with our summer reading programs and we were delighted to be able to offer two of them this opportunity." According to youth services librarian Jean Snyder, the two teen interns had both volunteered at the Library for several summers and both have served on the Library's Teen Advisory Panel. The internship is allowing them to continue to help the Library while earning money for their educational expenses.

For information about the Library's programs, resources, and services, visit the Library at 6800 Main Street or the Library's website at thecolonypl.org.
