City Council approves alcohol sales at balloon festival

The Celina city council approved the purchase of the old bank building now being used as City Hall and the First United Methodist Church building on Colorado Street at Monday's regular meeting.
The council also approved the issuance of several general obligation refunding bonds to pay for the two real estate purchases.
The council also approved a variance request from Eddie Bell, owner of Papa Gallo's restaurant to sell alcohol during the Celina Balloon Festival in October. Councilwoman Carmen Roberts said she liked the idea.
Councilman Wayne Nabors said he would never vote for the sale of alcohol at an event.
The council approved the sale of alcohol at the balloon festival with a three-one vote. Nabors cast the only negative vote. Council members Sean Terry and Larry Berg were absent.
The council unanimously approved a construction plat by Light Farms for phase I of the subdivision to be built on about 74 acres east of the Dallas North Tollway and north of Light Farms Way in Collin County.
Foreman introduced three new employees at the work session prior to the meeting. They are planning technician Ben Rodriguez, wastewater supervisor Ector Acguello and code enforcement officer Gerry Magnuson.
