It won't be necessary to travel outside of Celina for Fourth of July festivities.
It will be possible to celebrate being an American at the city of Celina's second annual Splash and Blast at Old Celina Park.
There were three at the first event last year. This year families will have six water slides on which to enjoy a summer day.
Once again there will be live music. Jon Christopher Davis and Lone Star Attitude and Olden Young Band are two of the groups that will perform. On Saturday afternoon community church choirs will perform.
There will also be carnival rides this year. The rides will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 29.
There will also be a petting zoo.
A baseball tournament for eight to 13-year-old players will be going on during the event.
Mayor pro tem Todd McCally will act as master of ceremonies.
The city has lowered the admission price this year. Last year an all-day pass was $10. This year it is half the cost at $5.
The finale for the event on Saturday night will be a $20,000, 20-minute firework display.
“Everybody come and enjoy,” City Manager Mike Foreman said, “The citizens of Celina should pride themselves on celebrating the 4th of July and the sacrifices our country has made for freedom.”
