Amateur Athletics: Planoites reach podium at Games of Texas

For the 27th consecutive year, the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation has gathered the top amateur athletes in the state to compete for the honor of top performer in their respective sport and age groups at the Summer Games of Texas.
This season, the Games headed south to Corpus Christi and as has been the case in the past, Metroplex teams exerted their dominance.
The games feature competitors in baseball, boxing, fencing, golf, judo, kickball, skateboarding, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, sprint and newbie triathlon and youth triathlon. The medalists qualify for advancement to the State Games of America (July 31-Aug. 4, 2013 in Hershey, Pa.).
TAAF was established in 1925 to promote, organize and conduct amateur athletics in Texas. Membership consists of 140 organizations and 210,000 individual participants.
This summer, programs from Plano, Allen, Carrollton, Coppell, Flower Mound, Frisco, Lewisville, Little Elm, McKinney, Mesquite, Plano, Rowlett, Southlake and The Colony advanced competitors to the Games of Texas.

COPS set up fall tryouts
The City of Plano Swimmers will hold their fall tryouts at 3 p.m. Aug. 7 at Rowlinson Natatorium.
