Two people died in a house fire in Weston on Monday night.

The Celina Fire Department received the call about 11 p.m. By the time firefighters reached the scene the single story, older home was engulfed in flames.

Collin County Interim Fire Marshal Jason Browning said once the fire was contained firefighters conducted a search and found two bodies.

Browning said the fire was caused by an overloaded electrical circuit and determined to be accidental.

“This fire was very specific to a specific set of circumstances,” he said. “Some of the wiring was substandard. It was an overloaded electrical circuit in this particular house.”

Besides the Weston Fire Department, the Celina, Anna and Melissa fire departments helped fight the blaze.

Longtime Weston resident, 82-year-old Dorothy Kissinger and her daughter, 61-year-old Cynthia Hendricks, who was visiting from Houston, died trying to escape the flames.

Weston Mayor Patti Harrington saw the flames coming out of the bedroom window when she left the Weston city hall around 11 p.m. after working late.

She called 911 and began honking her horn. She banged on the back windows of the house. By the time she got to the front porch the whole front of the house was in flames, she said.

Harrington knocked on the front door of the house across the street of the burning home to rouse Debbie Reno. Kissinger and Hendricks are Reno’s mother and sister.

Firefighters left the scene about 5:30 on Tuesday morning.

Harrington was on the scene till the next morning as well because her car was blocked in by a tangle of fire hoses.

“Dorothy was loved by everyone,” the mayor said. “She was an energetic, forward thinking, positive person who would do anything for anybody. She will leave a big hole in our group.”

Kissinger was vice president of the Weston Women’s Group.

“This tragedy has and will seriously affect this tiny, little, close-knit Collin County town,” Harrington said.

Visitation for Dorothy Kissinger will be held at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home at 2525 Central Expressway North in Allen on Thursday, Aug. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Weston on Friday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m.

Funeral services for Cynthia Hendricks will be held in Houston.
