Southlake Carroll's girls swimming and dive team has been named the NISCA (National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) National Dual Meet Champions, all classes, for 2011-012. Their point total of 6,396 points beat Carmel (Indiana) by just two points.
Carroll's boys team, meanwhile, finished second in the over 1,900 students Public School Division.
Both results are the highest finish ever for the Carroll swimming and diving teams.
Coppell's Jett Raines and The Colony's Zach LeDay were amongst the locals who competed at the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star basketball game at St. Mary's University in San Antonio. Raines and LeDay, who are committed to Pepperdine and South Florida, respectively, played for the North team.
Last night at the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Carroll's Jeff Miller, Hebron's Seth McBride and Coppell's Nick Jordan represented the North squad on the gridiron.
Goodloe out, Pryor in at Plano
For the second straight year, Plano Senior is getting a new wrestling head coach.
Clay Goodloe was at the helm for one season, but is departing for the same position at Carrolton Creekview. Ironically enough, Creekview is involved with the Wildcats' new head coach as well as Jay Pryor, who started the Mustangs' program when the school opened, is taking over at Plano.
Pryor was previously the wrestling coach at Sand Springs Public Schools in Sand Springs, Okla.
UIL steroid testing results
The UIL has released its annual Anabolic Steroid Testing Report for tests conducted between September 2011 and May 2012.
During that span, 3,311 tests were conducted and confirmed nine positive results and two protocol positives, which stem from a student-athlete violating the UIL steroid-testing protocol. One resulted from a student not reporting for testing and one was the result of a substituted specimen.
In addition, 217 schools were tested which included 3,087 boys across 11 sports and 224 girls over 10 sports. The sports with the most tests conducted were football (1,366) and volleyball (30) for boys and girls, respectively.
The testing spanned grade levels 9-12, with 1,045 senior student-athletes topping the scale.
