Edith Florette (Sutherland) Sanford, 83 of The Colony, TX passed away peacefully on June 20, 2012.
Florette was born and raised in Montclair, NJ and was a 1947 graduate of Montclair High School.After completion of her degree in elementary education at Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio, Flo began her teaching career in Montclair. She worked as a fourth grade teacher at Ashland School in East Orange, NJ for 35 years where she was involved in after school programs for the children and received recognitions for teacher of the year.
She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Montclair, NJ and St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Glen Burnie, MD; she attended St. Peter's Episcopal Church in The Colony, TX. In addition, Flo served on the board of directors for the Pascal Senior Center in Glen Burnie. And she enjoyed swimming with the "lunch bunch" at The Colony Aquatic Center.
Florette was preceded in death by her husband, Golder (Buster) Mathias Sanford, also of Montclair, NJ.
She is survived by her son, Golder Sanford (Judy) of West Orange, NJ; daughter, Edith Sanford Tuazon (Philip) of The Colony, TX; brother Lovell (Skip) Sutherland (Catherine) of West Orange, NJ; grandson Golder David Sanford of Vaux Hall, NJ; granddaughter, Krystel Sanford of West Orange, NJ; and a host of family and friends.
A memorial service will be scheduled in New Jersey in the near future. Donations can be made in her memory to your favorite children's charity.
