New competitive fishing circuit headed to Lewisville Lake in 2012

Published: Tuesday, June 5, 2012 9:29 AM CDT
Lewisville Lake has been selected as one of five stops in the inaugural season of the Texas Team Trail fishing tournament circuit, launching in 2012. Anglers will visit Lewisville for a one-day event Saturday.

The new circuit, designed exclusively for team competition, made stops at Sam Rayburn Lake, Lake Ray Roberts and Lake Livingston before next week's visit to Lewisville. The series championship will be held Oct. 20-21 at Lake Amistad.

"The Texas Team Trail will create tremendous opportunities for bass tournament anglers throughout the state of Texas," said Mike Hastings, tournament director. "The payout structure is incredible and with a low-cost, budget-friendly entry fee, anglers have a real opportunity to cash in. And when you consider the sponsor bonus contingency prizes available, there's just not another team trail in Texas that delivers this much value to the angler."

For a $250 entry fee, anglers have a chance to win a fully equipped boat and motor package at every Texas Team Trail event. The year-end championship features two more boat and motor packages awarded to top teams. To qualify for the two-day championship, anglers must fish all four qualifying events.

The new circuit will receive unprecedented television coverage not only across Texas, but across the country as a national audience can watch the action unfold from each event throughout the season on The Texas Channel, World Fishing Network, Pursuit Channel, and the new NBC Sports Network.

"We are looking forward to the opportunity to work with some great partners to build an exciting event for Texas anglers," said Chris Sprangers, brand partnership manager for circuit sponsor Cabela's. "It's great to be part of such a strong commitment to the sport of fishing."

Declared the official "Urban Bass Fishing Capital of Texas" by the State Legislature, Lewisville Lake is located 20 minutes north of downtown Dallas along Interstate 35E. Created in 1954 on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, the lake covers nearly 30,000 acres of surface area and reaches depths of up to 67 feet. Lewisville Lake is rated as "excellent" by Texas Parks & Wildlife for catfish, crappie and white bass, and "good" for largemouth bass and striped/hybrid bass.

Major tournaments held at Lewisville Lake since 2005 include a Bassmaster Elite 50, Bassmaster Central Open, Women's Bassmaster Tour, BoatUS National Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship, FLW Bass-Fishing League, and 2 Of Us Couples Championship.
