Easter Sunday is right around the corner and to welcome the spring event, the Collin County Animal Services will host an Adoption Hop on Saturday.

Miranda Fick, volunteer coordinator for the animal services said, the organization has tied holidays to their adoption events since September of last year.

"We have established an adoption program, and so we've been trying to do events around the holidays -- just really to help increase with adoptions at the shelter, Fick said. "The thought is, if we do community events that will get more people in the door for the adopters."

The event, which will be held at the animal service facility on 4750 Community Boulevard in McKinney, begins at 10 a.m. with a low cost vaccination that runs until noon. The event will also include adoptions and pictures with the Easter Bunny from noon to 5 p.m.; and an outdoor egg hunt (weather permitted) for children under 10, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

"Then 4 p.m., we're judging for a coloring contest that went out to all the local elementary schools," Fick said.

Fick said the organization is preparing for about 50 children and up to 100 to 200 people who are interested in pet adoption. The adoption fee for the animals is $75, which she added includes spaying or neutering the animals, a rabies shot and a microchip.

"It's a pretty heavily discounted adoption fee already compared to the norm; it's lower than most shelters and any rescue group in the area," Fick said.

The organization has not set an official rain date, but Fick said if it rains during the event they may post pone the egg hunt.

"Maybe we'll give the eggs away for free in the shelter when kids come in because we haven't set a rain date," Fick said, "just because it's tied to the holiday, so it's really dependent on this weekend."
