Winners in the McKinney Performing Arts Center's and the Arts and Music Guild's first annual Juried Arts Show will be announced at a reception Friday night at MPAC.
The public is invited to view the artwork in the gallery beginning at 7 p.m., with the winners to be announced at 8 p.m.
In addition to viewing the artwork, attendees may meet the artists, who submitted work from all over North Texas.
Prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 will be awarded to the three top winners. Those pieces of art will become permanent pieces of the MPAC Public Art Collection. The remaining artwork will be available for sale to the public at MPAC during regular hours May 14-22.
At a recent city council meeting, Councilman Don Day said, "With these large amounts of prize money being offered, starving artists from all over will be entering their work."
The winning art will be added to the three other existing permanent art collection pieces that Don and Linda Day previously donated to the center.
In addition to the Days, other sponsors of the event include: Mark and Sherry Tucker; David, Geralyn and Mark Kever; Hamilton and Sandra Doak; George and Sharla Bush; Terry Case; and Andy and Joe Bogdan.
Ty Lake, MPAC director, said, "We are thrilled to host the first annual Juried Arts Show at MPAC, in partnership with the Arts and Music Guild, and we look forward to showcasing such high-caliber creations in our historic facility."
The MPAC is located at the Historic Collin County Courthouse building in the heart of Historic Downtown McKinney at 111 N. Tennessee Street.
