Post 182 selling plaques for Veterans Memorial
By Emily Hill, ehill@starlocalnews.com
The Little Elm American Legion Post 182 is selling small plaques commemorating military veterans that will be placed in front of the Little Elm Town Hall on the Veterans Memorial.
"We want people to be able to see them," Post 182 Adjutant Bill Roebken Jr. said.
The four-by-six-inch plaque will have the name of the veteran, rank, branch of service and era of service engraved into it. There is no limited amount of plaques that can be ordered, but only one plaque bearing a name will be placed on the memorial since space is limited.
Plaques can be ordered for those who are or has been in the military such as a father, grandfather or sister. Or, a plaque can be ordered for one's self.
The plaques are part of a fundraiser for the Post. Proceeds from the plaques will go toward supporting the Post's general fund, which in turn, aids veterans.
"It'd be nice to have a lot of Little Elm veterans on there, but it doesn't have to be," Roebken said.
Roebken explained how he ordered plaques for himself and his grandfather. He said others can do the same thing and order a plaque for the memorial to commemorate veterans even if they don't live here.
Each plaque costs $30. Roebken said he will be placing the first order or 20 plaques by the end of next week, and will place another order when he reaches 20 submissions again. He will be accepting order forms until the wall on the Veterans Memorial is filled.
"There is no deadline, but when the Memorial is full, it's full," Roebken said. "We're looking to fill it up."
These plaques are not to be confused with the Fallen Soldier Memorial Plaque Program, which the Post donates plaques to families of fallen Texan soldiers.
