A woman and a man were killed in separate auto accidents Tuesday in Collin County, one off U.S. 380 near Lowry Crossing and the other in McKinney.

Shortly after 8:20 a.m., the Lowry Crossing Fire Department responded to an accident involving an 18-wheeler and a small passenger vehicle off U.S. 380 just west of Bridgefarmer Road, said Lowry Crossing Fire Chief Aaron Heitman.

The 18-wheeler, which he said "appeared to have been traveling west on 380," ran into the back of the smaller Honda at the intersection, then pushed the car farther west of Bridgefarmer Road.

The woman driving the Honda was loaded into an ambulance and pronounced dead shortly thereafter, Heitman said. The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered no visible injuries in the accident.

Because the accident occurred within Collin County but outside any specific city limits, the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety and McKinney police also responded to the scene. The roads were cleared by around 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Police could not yet reveal any further information regarding the victim, pending notification of next of kin, and had not yet determined the cause of the accident.

A man died in a separate accident when his van collided with a signal-light pole around 1 p.m. Tuesday at the southwest corner of Lake Forest Drive and Highlands Drive in McKinney.

McKinney Deputy Police Chief Scott Brewer said that when police and firefighters responded to the scene, the late-model white van was engulfed in flames, the victim's body already severely burned.

Police could not confirm the victim's identity or age, pending an ongoing investigation into the accident.
